What happens when a normal fault occurs?
2 pieces of rock move apart and one piece moves down.
What happens when a thrust fault occurs?
2 pieces of rock are pushed together and one piece moves up.
What happens when a slip-strike fault occurs?
2 pieces of rock move alongside each other in opposite directions.
What is an earthquake?
An earthquake is a shaking or trembling in the ground caused by a sudden release of energy from faults.
What are faults?
Faults are when 2 pieces of rock or ‘plates’ move against each other, creating friction.
What is the focus of an earthquake?
The focus of an earthquake is where the earthquake starts in the ground.
What is the epicentre of an earthquake?
The epicentre of an earthquake is where the centre of the earthquake is on the surface of the Earth.
