Earths Spheres And Energy Interaction Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are the four main Earth spheres involved in climate?
Atmosphere (air), Lithosphere (land), Hydrosphere (water), Biosphere (life).
What is the atmosphere’s role in climate?
It traps heat via greenhouse gases, circulates air through convection, and supports weather.
What is the hydrosphere’s role in climate?
It stores and redistributes heat via oceans, lakes, and ice through currents and phase changes.
What is conduction?
The transfer of heat through direct contact between molecules (e.g., land surface to air).
What is convection?
The movement of fluids (air or water) where warmer, less dense areas rise and cooler, denser areas sink.
What is radiation (thermal)?
The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves, which does not require a medium.
