Footpaths and soil erosion = rapidly increasing in the National Parks. -» large numbers of tourism causing this, and tourist buses.
Increased pollution, litter and untreated waste. Indian Ocean- becoming increasingly polluted-» sewerage from tourist industry.
Coral reefs in Malindi Marine National Park = damaged due to tourist boats.
Economic disadvantages of mass tourism in Kenya
Majority of tourists are from the developed world, (56% are from Europe), and they expect clean water (depriving locals of it), and western food, which means that it has to be imported causing leakages of profits.
Hotels are owned by western companies causing leakage of profits. Only 15% of the money earned goes to the locals.
