What is the definition of Biosphere?
The zone where all life is found. Extends 3m below ground and about 30m above ground and up to 200m deep in oceans.
What is the definition of biome?
a very large ecosystem, it has similar climatic conditions, flora and fauna
What does abiotic mean?
anything to do with the non-living environment
What are some examples of abiotic features?
soil,
sunlight
and precipitation
What does biotic mean?
Anything to do with the living environment
What is an example of a biotic feature?
flora and fauna
What is a finite resource?
A resource that will eventually run out
What is the definition of exploitation?
the act of using natural resources
What is a resource?
a stock or supply of something that is useful to people
What is overexploitation?
the act of using too much of something, especially a natural resource
What is the definition of Biodiversity?
the range of living organisms present in an area
What is the definition of a food chain?
a series of steps in which energy is obtained and used by living organisms
What is the definition of a food web?
a series of interconnected food webs
What does interdependent mean?
something relies on something else
What is an adaptation?
a special characteristic that allows an organism to survive in a particular environment
What are the 3 types of adaptions?
Behavioural
Physiological
Structural
What is a behavioural adaptation?
responses made by an organism that help it survive/reproduce
(the way an animal acts or behaves)
What is a physiological adaptation?
a body process that helps an organism to survive/reproduce
What is a structural adaptation?
a feature of an organism’s body that helps it to survive/reproduce
(physical features of an organism)
What is a good?
physical products and items provided by the ecosystem
What is a service?
Roles/jobs that the ecosystem does-things that we can’t touch
What is deforestation?
the removal of a forest, where land is converted to non-forest use
What is eutrophication?
Excessive richness of nutrients in a lake or other body of water
What is governance?
the act or process of governing or overseeing the control and direction of something
