1880 - Fosters Education Act
This act made education compulsory for all students
State becomes responsible for education
1944 - Butler Act (Tripartite)
Divided secondary education into three schools:
Grammar (10%)
Secondary Modern (85%)
Secondary Technical (5%)
All students required to complete 11+ in order to be allocated 1 of the 3 schools
1965 - Comprehensivisation
Nearly all schools were replaced with comprehensive schools to reduce class barriers (mixed-ability)
