these were working class parents whose choices residence by lack of economic and cultural capital They found it hard to understand school admissions and procedures . less confident in their dealings with schools less aware of choices open.

  • these parents were mainly working class but unlike the disconnected locals they were ambitious for their children. However they lacked cultural capital and found it difficult to make the education market often relying on people’s opinion.

what is the myth of pantocracy? (ball)

A

not only does marketisation reproduce inequality but it also legitimises it by concealing its true causes and by justifying existence. Ball believes that the marketization gives an appearance of a pantocracy . that the education system seems to be based on parent’s having free choices but no that’s an illusion. Gewirtz said middle class parents better benefited from this.
