1549 was the WORST YEAR IN THE TUDOR PERIOD.
What were the causes of the Western Prayer Book rebellion?
Religious grievances and the Sheep Tax. Rebels wanted a reversal of religious changes since Henry VIII.
The 1547 Chantries Act and the 1549 Act of Uniformity devastated the religious experience within the country. Insensitive local officials worsened the situation. Common prayer book referred to as ‘A Christmas game’.
How was the Western Prayer Book rebellion dealt with?
A group of English troops and foreign mercenaries dealt with the rebellion under the army led by Lord Russell.
What were the causes of Ketts Rebellion?
Hatred of insensitive government officials, resentment of landowners, and the Norfolk foldcourse system. It was a release of frustrations.
How was Kett’s rebellion dealt with?
The first attempt failed with the army under the Earl of Northampton being humiliatingly defeated. The second attempt was successful with the army under the Earl of Warwick (Northumberland), leading to Kett’s conviction of high treason.
