What are ampere’s used for and what is its equation?
Current, i=q/t
What are coulomb’s used for and what is its equation?
Charge
Charge = current x time
q=it
What are joule’s used for and what is its equation?
Energy
Energy transferred = current x voltage x time
E
I x V x T
What are ohm’s used for and what is its equation?
Resistance, v=ir
What are volts used for and what is its equation?
Voltage
Voltage = current x resistance
v=ir
What are watts used for and what is its equation?
Power, vi=p
What does static electricity mean?
Charge that isn’t moving
Materials which electricity will not pass through easily are called…
Insulators
Materials which electricity will pass through easily are called…
Conductors
What is an electric current?
Electric current is the rate of flow of charge
What is voltage?
Voltage is the energy transferred per unit charge passed
What is the equation for potential difference?
Potential difference = energy transferred (J) / charge (C)
What is Ohm’s law?
For a conductor at constant temperature, the current through the conductor is proportional to the voltage across it
What is a series circuit?
A series circuit is a circuit where there is only one path from the source through all of the components and back to the source. This means all of the current in the circuit must flow through all components. E.g fairy lights
What is a parallel circuit?
Circuits in parallel have more than one path through all the components
What are the four rules of series circuits?
- The same current passes through all the components in series with each other
- The total potential difference of the voltage supply in a series circuit is shared between the components
- The total resistance of components in series is equal to the sum of the resistance of each component
- The total potential difference of cells in series is the sum of the potential difference of each cell
What is the word equation for Ohm’s law?
Resistance = potential difference (V) / current (A)
How is power defined?
P.t=e
E
P T
What is the equation for power?
Power = current x voltage
P=iv
P
I V
What is wavelength?
The distance from one peak to the next
What is electrical power?
The rate at which an appliance transfers energy
What is the equation for electrical power?
Electrical power = current x voltage
What is current?
The rate of flow of charge round the circuit
What is the unit for current?
Amps, A
