embryology Flashcards
(55 cards)
nasal, saquama temporalis, maxilla, mandible
nc
what produces the facial prominences?
cranial neural crest cells
what do nasal pits develop from ?
nasal palcodes
what forms the boundary between arches 1 and 2?
the external ear
what is the process of fusion?
fusion is town processes meeting- in fusion the outer edge of ectoderm must be resorbed- the palate is the only place we have evidence that this process occurs
what are the five processes that fuse during development?
2 maxillary
2 mandibular
1 frontonasal
what is the nasal placode?
thickening of ectoderm on the frontal prominence it indicates the development of the future nose
what is the nasal pit?
depression in the nasal placode indicating the external nares- the openings of the nasal cavity are separate from each other
what does the medial nasal process contribute to?
portions of the upper lip-nasal septum, and ethmoid bone
what do the lateral nasal processes contribute to?
the lateral portion of the nose
what external features of the face are formed by the fusion of the medial nasal processes?
the bridge of the nose and the philtrum of the lip
what internal structures of the face are formed by the fusion of the medial nasal processes?
incisor bearing segment of the maxilla and the primary palate
what external feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the medial nasal process and the maxillary process?
upper lip
what internal feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the medial nasal process and the maxillary process
maxillary arch
what external feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the lateral nasal process and the maxillary process? specifically from the mp?
infraorbital region and cheek
what external feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the lateral nasal process and the maxillary process? specifically the lnp
ala of the nose
what external feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the mandibular process?
lower lip- chin
what internal feature of the face is formed by the fusion of the mandibular process?
mandibular arch
what are the lateral lingual swellings?
two lateral swellings of the mandibular arch
what is the turberculum impar?
a single mid-line swelling posterior to the tuberculum impar
what is the copula?
a single midline swelling posterior to the tuberculum impar- derived from the 2, 3, and 4 arches
how is the body of the tongue formed?
the forward grouwht of the lateral lingual swelling fusing with the tuberculum impar
what is the innervation of the anterior tongue?
sensation- 5
taste 7
what does the root of the tongue develop from?
copula
