End of term 3 science test Flashcards
(64 cards)
Nucleus
Control centre of the cell, contains the cells DNA
Name of the part in a plant cell where a plant manufacturers its food
Chloroplast
Specialised cells in a plant cell
Guard cell, Conducting cell, structural cell, root hairs, Photosynthnisis cell
levels of organisation
Organelles - cell - tissue - organ - system - Organism
which one is not in a plant cell
- Rybosomes
- Mitochondria
- Rough endoplasmic reticulum
RER
What type of cell is this?
Contains DNA and other organelles but they are not membrane bound like a nucleus.
Prokaryotes
define organ
a group of tishues in the same place that has the same function
What is a runner
Stem that runs above the ground and roots go down into the ground (eg. Strawberries, Grasses)
What are Bulbs?
Rounded underground storage organ that contains the shoot of a new plant (eg. Onions, Tulips)
What are Stem Tubers?
The thickened part of an underground stem of a plant, with buds that a new plant shoot grows (eg. potatoes)
what are Rhizomes?
Its is an underground stem that shoots out roots creating more plants. (eg. Asparagus, ginger, bamboo)
what is a sucker?
An extra little vine on a plant that starts to grow, They are capable of becoming an entirely new plant if you were to plant it (eg. Roses, Tomatoes)
Binary Fission
A parent creates two of itself creating a daughter cell identical to the parent.
Fragmentation
When the parent breaks part of itself of and a different cell grows off it.
Parthenogenesis
When a female (egg) can develop into an embryo without being fertilized by a male (sperm)
Asexual Reproduction
Only one parent, the daughter cell is identical to the parent.
Sexual Reproduction
Two parents come together to make a cell that is unique.
what is the female side of the Flower structure called?
Corpell
what is the male side of the flower structure called?
Stamen
Stigma
Site of pollen to be deposited
Style
Connects the stigma to the ovary
Ovary
Produces eggs (ovules)
Ovule
The name of the eggs in the plant
Anther
Produces pollen that contains the Male Gamete (sperm)
