What types of tests are performed to determine pulpal diagnosis?
Temperature tests
How will normal pulp react to cold and hot?
Cold: feels cold sensation which disappears (WNL)
Hot: it feels warm (WNL)
How will Reversible pulpitis react to cold and hot?
Cold: Painful then disappears
Hot: it feels warm (WNL)
How will Irreversible pulpitis react to cold and hot?
Cold: Painful then stays
Hot: It feels warm (WNL)
How will Necrotic pulp react to cold and hot?
Cold: no response at all
Hot: No response or possibly hurts (hot gases expand)
What are the steps to testing teeth for pulpitis?
- chief complaint
- percussion with finger first (a few teeth away)
- Repeat percussion with mirror handle.
- Palpate (a few teeth away)
- Probe it
- Cold/Heat
What are the four types of periapical diagnosis?
AAP (asymptomatic apical perio)
SAP (symptomatic apical perio)
AAA (acute apical abscess)
CAA (chronic apical abscess–Sinus tract)
