Q

Potential energy

A

energy that has the potential to do work and so the energy is ‘stored’, such 339as gravitational energy, elastic energy and chemical energy

12
Q

Energy transformations

A

Energy is transformed into different types of energetic like light or heat, while it happens it loses lots of energy which doesn’t make it very efficient

13
Q

Conduction

A

Conduction is the transfer of heat from one molecule to another through a substance.

14
Q

Convection

A

The particles that make up solids are close to each other and held together tightly. They can vibrate faster only when heated (and conduction occurs).
In liquids and gases the particles are further apart and can move around.
So when liquids and gases are heated, rather than the vibration passing between particles, the particles themselves can move.
Heat can travel through liquids and gases by a process called convection.

Q

Radiation

A

Heat from the sun reaches the Earth by radiation.
Heat transferred in this way is called radiant heat.
Heat transfer by radiation is much faster than heat transfer by conduction or convection.

16
Q

Reflected

A

Bounces off,
Light colour surfaces tend to reflect light and radiated heat away. The temperature of these object doesn’t change that quick when heat reaches them by radiation

17
Q

Transmitted

A

passed through something, such as light or sound passing through air,
Clear objects like glass, allow light and radiant heat to pass through them
The temperature of these objects does not increase quickly when heat reaches them by radiation.

18
Q

Absorbed

A

Taken in
Dark coloured objects tend to absorb light and radiant heat. Their temperatures increase quickly when heat reaches them by radiation

19
Q

Describe visible spectrum

A

We only see white light but cause all the colours together disperses it into white so we don’t see the colours seprarated

20
Q

Properties of electro magnetic radiation

A

Carries energy
Travel at the speed of light
Invisible
