energy transformation Flashcards
(13 cards)
Conservation of Energy- concept
Energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be transformed.
conservation of energy what does the Formula mean?:
The sum of all the initial energy = The sum of all the final energy
kinetic energy concept-
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion.
The faster an object is going, the more kinetic energy it has.
kinetic energy formula meaning
Kinetic energy = half x mass (in kg) x speed (in m/s) squared.
Gravitational Potential Energy concept-
Gravitational potential energy is the energy of height.
The higher up an object is, the more gravitational potential energy it has.
GPE (garvit poten energy) when to use formula
Gravitational potential energy = mass (in kg) x gravitational acceleration (10 m/s2 on Earth) x height (in m).
Elastic Potential Energy concept-
Elastic potential energy is the energy stored in an elastic(or spring) that has been stretched (or compressed). The further it has been stretched, the more elastic potential energy it has.
elastic potential energy- when to use formula
Elastic potential energy = half x stiffness (in N/m) x extension (in m) squared.
when do we use energy transformations?
We can use the law of conservation of energy together with the formulas for the various energy types to solve for unknown quantities in a given question.
hypothesis
A hypothesis is a simple educated guess or prediction about a relationship, or outcome that is testable using if and then using then
Independent variable
the thing you change and goe son the x axis
dependent variable
thing you measure
controlled variable
thing you keep the same
