Q

Enterokinase

A

Enterokinase is believed to be produced by the glands of Brunner in the membrane lining of the duodenum

is an enzyme that plays a key role in the digestion of proteins by activating the pancreatic enzyme trypsinogen to trypsin. Without enterokinase, trypsinogen cannot be activated, and therefore trypsin will not be produced. As a result, the breakdown of proteins into their constituent amino acids will be impaired, leading to a deficiency of amino acids which can have a variety of negative consequences for the body.
