52
What is stained by Haematoxylin?
Stains acidic things blue, such as cell nuclei or RNA
53
What is stained by Eosin?
Stains alkaline things/proteins pink. These include cytoplasm and colloidal proteins, as well as extracellular fibres such as collagen and elastic. BUT stains KERATIN orange/red (watery extra-cellular jelly or fats don't stain)
54
What is stained by Alcian Blue?
Stains these blue: - Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) rich structures - found in all CT and extracellular matrix - Mucous goblet cells - Mast cell granules - Cartilage Matrix
55
What is stained by Iron Haematoxylin?
Stains nuclei and elastic fibres - black
56
What is stained by Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS)?
Stains hexose sugars (especially those of complex carbohydrate containing structures e.g. goblet cell mucins, cartilage matrix, glycogen, basement membranes and glycocalyx) Magenta (dark pink)
57
What is stained by Toluidine Blue?
Stains nuclei, ribosomes, cytoplasm - dark blue Stains cartilage matrix, mast cell granules - pale blue Stains GAG-rich components - bright purple
58
RESP: False vocal cords/Vestibular Folds
Respiratory epithelium
