Q

At equilibrium

A
  1. The rate of the forward reaction is the same as the rate of the reverse reaction
  2. Concentrations of the the reactants and products remain constant.
  3. Macroscopic properties are constant

Q

How can you tell the reversibility of a chemical equation?

A

The reversibility of chemical reactions can be explained in terms of the activation energy of the for/rev reactions

Q

What is K?

A

K is the equilibrium constant which is calculated in mol L^-1. If K>10^3, Reaction strongly favours products. If K<10^-3, Reaction very strongly favours reactants

Q

Le French guys principle?

A

If a change in conditions is made to a chemical system in equilibrium, then the system will adjust in such a way as to partially counteract the imposed change

Q

Effects of a catalyst

A

Provides a lower activation energy pathway for a reaction. Thus increases for/rev reaction rates equally. Helpful in achieving equilibrium more quickly
