Characteristics of Changemakers
Brave, passionate, empathetic, persistent, and willing to take action for others. They challenge injustice and work to create positive change.
Social Justice
The fight for fairness, equality, and human rights for everyone, especially for those who are treated unfairly because of their identity.
Shannen Koostachin
A young Cree activist who fought for better education for Indigenous youth in Canada. Her work led to the Shannen’s Dream campaign.
Reputable News Agencies
Trustworthy sources that report accurate, fact-checked news without bias. Examples: CBC, BBC, The Globe and Mail, Reuters.
Stages of Change Continuum – Steps people go through when making a change:
- Pre-awareness – Not aware there’s a problem
- Awareness – Starts to recognize the issue
- Planning – Thinking about what to do
- Action – Doing something about it
- Maintenance – Keeping the change going

A Jamaican youth leader who created programs to stop violence and help young people. He promotes peace, leadership, and education.
How to Take Action
Learn about the issue, speak up, join or start campaigns, volunteer, donate, or use social media to raise awareness.
Intersectionality
The idea that people can face more than one type of discrimination at once (e.g., racism + sexism), and these layers affect their experience of inequality.

Impact as a Consumer
The choices you make (like what you buy or support) affect workers, the environment, and global justice. Buying fair trade or eco-friendly products is one way to help.
