Q

Cliffs and wave-cut platforms

A
  • Erosion happens at the base, which creates a wave-cut notch, which causes the cliff to become unstable and collapse (retreats inland)
-Which then leaves behind a wave-cut platform, a flat, exposed rock area at the base of the cliff

Q

Headlands and Bays

Q

Caves, Arches, Stacks and stumps

A

-Form on headlands due to marine erosion exploting creaks and weaknesses.
1) Cave erosion enlarges a crack
2) Arch Cave deepened and broke through the headland
3) The stack roof collapses, leaving an isolated pillar
4) Stump Stack erodes and collapses, leaving a low stump
Example- Old Harry Rock, Dorset
