  • The bible teaches that at the end of time there will be many frightening events such as stars falling from the sky
  • It is also taught that Jesus will then return to earth to judge all humans
  • The kingdom of God will also be established at the end of time

  • People will experience some pain in the purgatory, however if you are in the purgatory then you are guaranteed to enter heaven

  • Everyone has the right to decide how/when they die

  • Those who are judged favourably will be given back the same body they lost at death, except this body will be in a perfect state

A

1) Mary has a look of calm whilst many others seem panicked - this shows that she is the perfect disciple

2) Everybody in the painting (apart from Mary and Jesus) are naked - this shows that all people are equal

3) Christ is the central figure of the painting - this shows that he is the judge of all

4) Christ has visible wounds showing on his body - this shows that he came to glory through obedience and suffering

5) People can be seen rising from their graves - this shows that the bodies of all people will be raised up on judgement day

What is an easter vigil?

A

An easter vigil is a service that takes place in darkness from late Saturday night to early Sunday Easter morning (in which people stay awake)

  • The Priest lights a fire (representing the light of christ rising from his tomb)
  • The priest traces Alpha and Omega on the Paschal Candle (reminds people that christ is eternal)
  • The priest inserts 5 grains of incense into the Paschal Candle (representing the 5 wounds of christ)

A

A memorial is a structure built to honour or respect a dead person

- Catholic Tombstones often have the letters 'R.I.P' (expressing a prayer of hope that the person is in heaven) - Catholic Tombstones are also often shaped like a cross (to indicate that the person believed in Jesus)

- Sin is necessary because God gave us free will - Sin will be defeated at the end of time

The black represents that the person now has a new life with God in the afterlife

- In a catholic funeral the priest wears green, this symbolises that the person is now in a new life with God (God is with us after death) - The priest states that "we commit this body to the ground", this reminds people that we were made by God and after death we will return to God
