- pts need to have a consent letter detailing all the relevant info that might effect their decision to pts
- children under 16; parental signature is required

- pts need a full debrief; made aware of the true aims and any details not informed at the start of the study
- should be told what thier data is being used for and have the right to withdraw themselves and their data
- in extreme cases of stress; counselling should be provided

- no personal details are recorded; maintain anonymity (using initials or numbers)
