A

Detained for up to 28 days +/1 Tx after that
Must be made by AMHP and two dr (one of which knows Pt)
Can be appealed to mental health tribunal within 14 days

Can’t be renewed but can be turned into section 3 for patient health or for health of others

Section 3

A

Lasts for 6 months (can be renewed for another 6-12 months)
Patients can not refuse Tx (although some Tx can not be done without patient consent e.g. ECT)
Only able to treat against against wishes for mental health not for other disease (unless they are deemed not to have capacity)

Must be made by AMHP and two dr (one of which knows Pt)

DNACPR

A

Establish current clinical circumstances
Explore what they know.
Explain it applies to CPR not to treatment

CPR is very distressing and in frail not often successful
Decision is made by senior Dr and is in the patients best wishes. This decision can not be appealed or refused

Reassure that medical care involvement will not change as a result of this

A

Home circumstances (who live with, family occupations)
Children
Patient support network (fam and friends)
SH: alc and drug

Agression and violence: is it violence or intimidation.
Nature of violence
How long been happening, what happens, when/how often does it happen

Any other forms of abuse
Sexual, emotional, physical, financial

Does patient think they know underlying reasons

Reassure they are not to blame and the importance of telling Dr.

What do they want to happen now?

Information to give:

  • Suggest patient packs bag
  • offer information and support leaflets
  • offer to take photographic evidence of injuries

Assess risk and safety net appropriately.
