General format for explaining results
Background and lead up (what do you know so far, jy they had it done and what was done)
- Biopsy, blood test, lung capacity etc whatever done
Explain result and link this as the most probable reason but explain it could be something else
Treatment available (including what, how, risk, benefit and alternatives) - make sure to check allergies which may alter the choice of treatments
Lifestyle advice where relevant
What to take into account
Chunk and check, ICE, encourage patient to make their own decision
Cervical cancer screening
25-49 3 yearly, 50-65 5 yearly. (Inc frequency if abnormal test results)
Establish what patient knows (prev tests etc)
Why, what, risks etc and follow up
Must not be on period, had recent sex, be currently using tampon, using vaginal creams
Result explain:
Dyskriosis is NOT Ca but can signify pre cancerous state
The next test is colposcopy for visualisation and possible treatment (gage what they know and explain that this is a detailed examination of the cervix)
Done as day case, no sedation, no GA, can go to work same day (may be some bleeding/discharge: use sanatory pad. Avoid sex until bleeding stopped)
Speculum and special microscope used to look at cervix & biopsy
Reuslts usually within a week
TX for CIN etc: loop excision, diathermy, cryotherapy, cone biopsy
Risks post treatment: inform Dr during preg as inc risk premature labour

Explain:
Form of 1 to 1 talking therapy focusing on current state of affairs rather than past, gives different ways of problem solving / thinking about issues

Timing of session not fixed an tailored to the patients needs
Benefits: better way of dealing, can be used in conjunction of medications, bound by confidentiality (unless deemed at harm to self or others)
Risks: might not work
