What do most Christians believe about sex?
Most theists believe sex is sacred, should only take place in marital relationship, adultery/sex b4 marriage is against 10 commandments ‘do not commit adultery’, sex was a gift from God to be used in loving way for procreation
Evidence of Christians views about marriage?
Campaigns/organisations promote abstinence eg ‘The Silver Ring Thing’ organisation in America.
Church of England teaches marriage is proper place where sexual relations should occur. But 1995 report ‘Something to Celebrate’ said Christians accept cohabitation
Catholic views on artificial contraception?
Believe it’s wrong to use artificial because they go against idea that married couple should do it for procreation and goes against sanctity of life, interferes with process so goes against will of God(sin)
Catholic views on natural contraception?
Accept withdrawal method as there natural ways of birth control and don’t interfere with Gods plans for people
Evidence for Catholics views on contraception?
Catholic view promoted by the Pope& church is controversial as it’s led to spread if aids in parts of Africa(large catholic population) and barrier methods of contraception don’t prevent aids
What do Protestants believe about contraception?
Believe a couple can use any form of birth control as couple needs to decide when to have baby. Many say God’s given us common-sense to make decisions for ourselves. Knowledge of artificial methods may have been given to humans by God for our benefit. Not loving acting to continue having babies if you can’t support/provide for them
What do Christians believe about morning after pill?
All Christians are against use of the morning after pill as they see it as a form of abortion -> ‘10 commandments-do not kill’
Why do marriages fail?
Reasons:
- A person commits adultery/has an affair with someone else
- Couple fall out of love
- Couple always argue and children are suffering
- Physical or emotional abuse committed by one person
How can a religious idea of marriage help people in their marriage?
Christians believe marriage&sex is gift from God&should be cared for & protected
They have responsibility to God& their family to support&help each other
When vows are said b4 God, then there’s agreement with God to stay committed/faithful to each other through good and bad times
How can being a part of a religious tradition help in marriage?
Because they have people who care about them to help them in times of difficulty. Can go to people&receive advice on their marriage. Believe they can prey for, can help in times of need. Believe God can help them in marriage if they pray to him

What is artificial and natural contraception?
Artificial- use of a device eg condom to prevent conception &STD
Natural- natural methods eg withdrawal method to prevent conception & STD’s

What does divorce mean?
A legal process where a couple ends their marriage
What do Catholics believe about divorce and re-marriage?
All divorce is wrong. Marriage is a sacrament. Couple vowed to stay together till death. Don’t believe in re-marriage as shouldn’t get divorced. Catholic Church doesn’t recognise a divorce. Catholics believe a marriage can be annulled
What does annulled mean?
Means the marriage did not take place in the first place
What do Protestants believe about divorce and re-marriage?
Marriage is sacred but divorce is allowed for some reasons eg adultery, domestic violence therefore remarriage is allowed if partner was wronged in first marriage. Most Protestants don’t agree with divorce but accept humans can make mistakes->second chance, God gives many chances
When did it become legal for civil partnerships to happen?
On the 21st December 2005 it became legal in Uk for same-sex couples to recognise their union legally through civil partnerships
What is a civil partnership?
A legal recognition of a same sex relationship
Does the Catholic Church and Church of England perform civil partnerships?
No, both teach marriage is the proper place where sexual relationships should occur with main role of sex is for procreation. Performing civil partnership suggest they accept homosexual sex is acceptable as married heterosexual sex. Both think civil partnerships undermine their teaching that children should be raised by biological mum&dad
Evidence of Christian response to civil partnership?
In book of Leviticus it says “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both if them have done what is detestable”
Negative views on civil partnerships?
The Westboro Baptist Church strong views, protest views at soldiers funerals
Positive views on civil partnerships?
Homosexuality is seen as sin but “Hate the sinner but love the sinner”. There’s a Gay Christian Movement. Reverend Paul Collier believes the church should ‘celebrate and affirm love, fidelity and commitment’.
Christian views on role of men and woman in a family?
Christianity teaches about the belief in the equality of all people. Pope John Paul II spoke of m&w being equal. Some think equal but have diff roles. Men were designed to have leadership role&provide 4 family. Woman have traditional role @ home caring 4 children. Others believe completely equal + perform same roles
