What did Gillbourn find about black cultures
Teachers see it as a challenge to their authprity - eg slang dress
Goes against white fema;e teacher’s style of teaching
How do black and South Asians differ
South Asians may get angry at institutional racism but ultimatally accept it is needed for a career
May however make Asians feel more isolated and enjoy school less
Who found that girls recieved same stereotypes but reacted differently
Mirza - black girls acheive to stick it to the teachers instead of rebelling
What is the experience of a South Asian girl
Conolly - SA often overlooked, may be labelled as passive. Many teachers thought they didn’t care about school (cultural perception of marriage) leading to self fulfilling prophecy and slightly ignores
What is a problem with the national curriculum
Some believe it to be ethnocentric and use old colonial imagery of ethnic minorities, while black art and music is ignored. Made worse by 2014 coalition gov, introducing more Shakespeare leaving less room for minorities.
What is wrong with blaming the curriculum
Teaches people the British values of the country increasing social solidarity
Swann report shows it doesn’t actually affect the self esteem of black students
