What is the definition of a eukaryotic cell?
Have a true nucleus with a nuclear envelope surrounding the chromosomes and membrane bound organelles
What are the components and function of a nucleus?
Surrounded by a double membrane, has nuclear pores, nucleoplasm, nucleolous
Contains the majority of the cells genetic material, material is organised as DNA, along with a variety protein, to form chromosomes. It coordinated the cells activities
What are the components and functions of a Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum?
Has ribosomes for protein synthesis on its surface. It is responsible for the assembly of many proteins, this is called translation
What are the components and function of smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
Regulates and releases calcium ions and processes toxins
What are the components and function of a Golgi apparatus?
Process and package the macro-molecules such as proteins and lipids that are synthesised by the cell. It modifies, sorts and packages proteins for secretion
What are the components and function of a lysosomes?
Contain digestive enzymes, they digest excess or worn out organelles, food particles and engulfed viruses or bacteria
What are the components and function of a ribosome?
Makes protein, needed to repair damage or directing chemical processes
What are the components and function of mitochondria?
Produce energy for the cell through respiration and to regulate cellular metabolism
What are the components and function of cell membranes?
Protect the cell from its surroundings. It controls the movement of substances in and out of cells
What are the components and function of the cytoplasm?
Jelly like fluid that’s fills a cell, made up of mostly water and salt
What are the components and function of chloroplasts?
They convert light energy of the sun into sugars that can be used by cells
What are the components and function of a permanent vacuole?
Provides support or rigidity a storage area for nutrients and waste matter

Composed of cellulose provides strength and protections
