How was the 16th century the beginning of social and economic change?
The wealthier peasants were more recognised as a separate class (development of the middle class.) They provided services to monarchs and so there was less reliance on nobility
Many peasants were still employed on the land, where did this differ?
In France and England, the peasants were more valuable after the Plague killed so many
The treatment of peasants in Spain still varied, where was it better?
Better in Castile than in Aragon or Catalonia
What was still the main concern of all European countries?
Famine
Nobles across Europe still had a lot of privileges, name a couple
MAIN: they were exempt from taxation and had seigneurial rights over the peasantry
Which areas in Spain were better for peasants and why?
The urban areas, as nobles still had a lot of control over them in the rural areas
To replace military service, what could the monarch do?
Try and impose financial payment that the nobles had to pay
