Types of tissues found in skin.
Epidermis and Dermis (Not a part of the skin: Subcutaneous Tissue).
Functions of skin.
Protective barrier, prevents loss of moisture, sensory organ, etc.
Layers of the epidermis.
stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum.
Cells found in each layer of the epidermis.
melanocytes, Langerhans cells, Merkel cells, and inflammatory cells.
Directly underneath the epidermis, contains capillaries, lymph vessels and sensory neurons, and supplies nutrients to select layers of the epidermis and regulates temperature.
Papillary Layers
The thick bottom layer of the dermis, has blood vessels and connective tissue that supports the skin, and strengthens the skin, providing structure and elasticity.
Reticular Layer
Function of melanin.
Skin and hair pigmentation and photoprotection of the skin and eye. Protects from UV radiation.
