2005 earthquake in Pakistan/media coverage
there were 73000 deaths and millions of people were homeless. This caused more damage than hurricane katrina but it was not talked about there was just a little coverage about it in the US and then it disappeared.
Durkheim/suicide
did a study to figure out why people were committing suicide and discovered that it was not individualistic but rather due to not fitting into society’s normal ways of operating
Social autopsy vs. investigative reporting
Social autopsy studies why a natural disaster has occurred and the effect it has on the people after. Investigative reporting goes in depth and looks up research on why something has occurred
