Exam 3 Second Lecture Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is the main difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?
Meiosis pairs homologs (crossing over)
What is the process of spermato genesis?
primary spermatocyte splits in Meoisis I to secondary spermatocyte (two of them), then Meosis II splits them again into sperm.
How many gametes does Spermato Genesis end up with?
4
What is the process of Oogenesis?
Primary oocyte undergos Meiosis I and splits to one secondary oocyte and a polar body. secondary oocyte splits (Meiosis II) and makes another oocyte and polar body.
How many gametes are produced after Oogenesis?
1
What is a common error in Meiosis?
Non-disfunction
What is Non-disfunction?
Some or all dyads fail to separate in Meiosis I.
What are the two different types of non-disfunction?
Aneuploidy and Polyploidy
Describe Aneuploidy
The number of chromosomes is NOT a whole multiple of hyploid number.
What is trisomy?
Results in an extra copy of chromosomes
What is monosomy?
Results in missing a pair of chromosomes
Describe Polyploidy
More than two sets of a complete chromosome
