Concrete operational thought
Piaget’s term for the ability to reason logically about direct experiences and perceptions
Identity
Certain characteristics of an object remains the same even as the other characteristics change
Reversibility
The capacity to think through a series of steps and then mentally reverse direction return to the starting point
Formal language
We use it when writing essays for school, cover letters to apply for jobs, or emails and letters at work.
Informal language
We use it with friends, children, and relatives.
Self-concept changes
Based on appearance, possessions, behavior and observable characteristics
Meta-cognition
Thinking about thinking or the ability to evaluate a cognitive task in order to determine how to best accomplish it and then monitor and adjust one performance on that task
