Excretory Flashcards
Flow of Blood in Kidney
Renal Artery Afferent Arteriole Glomerulus Efferent Arteriole Peritubular capillaries Renal vein
Kidney is:
Responsible for maintaining homeostasis through water balance, ions levels, urea levels, pH of blood.
Flow of filtrate
glomerulus Bow mans capsule Proximal Convulated Tubule Loop of Henle Distal Convulated tubule Collecting duct Renal pelvis Ureter Bladder Urethra
Filtrate includes
Water Salts Amino acids Fatty acids Glucose Urea Uric acid Hormones Toxins Ions
Proximal Convulated Tubule and Loop of Henle
reabsorption of sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate ions
Glucose
Water by diffusion
Distal Convulated tubule
Reabsorption of sodium ions
Active reabsorption of water depending on body needs
Secretion of hydrogen and potassium ions, creatinine and certain drugs like penicillin.
Haemodialysis
Machine is used to filter blood
Peritoneal Dialysis
Fluid low concentration of wastes is infused into peritoneal cavity. Wasted diffuse into the fluid and it is removed from the body.
Deamination
Amino groups are converted into urine.
Remaining part of amino acid - carbon and hydrogen is converted into carbohydrates.
Amino Acid + oxygen > carbohydrate and ammonia.
Ammonia and CO2 + energy > urea and acids
