Excretory System Flashcards
(13 cards)
Explain the excretory system.
collection of organs that work to dispose of waste rom the fluids in our body
What is Homeostasis?
Body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite changes external environment
What does the homeostasis control?
Controls body temp. ,blood sugar and water content
Explain 2 of the kidney function
1) Filters the waste out of the blood
2) Balances the volume of fluids and minerals in the body
What are nephrons?
Functional units of the kidneys responsible for filtering blood and producing urine
What is the bladder?
Urine collected in the bladder, which is a storage sac that holds the pee
What are ureters?
Thin tubes that transfer urine from the kidneys to the bladder
Explain urethra
The tube that lets urine leave your body
Describe the liver.
The liver is a large, reddish-brown organ in the upper right abdomen that performs vital functions like filtering the blood, processing nutrients, and producing bile for digestion.
Explain the skin
The skin is the body’s largest organ ,made of water, protein, fats and minerals .It allows you to feel sensations. It also is a protective shield and sensory organ.
What are the lungs?
They are the only organs that make you float. They also allow you to breathe and get rid of carbon-dioxide.
What is urine?
Liquid produced by the kidneys to filter waste and excess fluids from the body
How does the excretory system work?
1) Kidneys filter blood 🡪 the waste from the blood forms urine
2) As each kidney makes urine, the urine slides down long tubes called
the ureters
3) The urine is then collected in the bladder, which is a storage sac
that holds the pee
4) When you pee, the urine goes from the bladder down another tube
called the urethra and out of your body
