Nervous System Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the nervous system?
communication network which allows the brain {the control center} to communicate with the rest of the body.
What is the difference between sensory nerves and motor nerves?
sensory nerves transport sensory information such as touch, vison, smell and taste. While motor nerves carry signals to your muscles or glands to help you to move and function.
What is the brain stem?
The brainstem is the structure that connects the cerebrum of the brain to the spinal cord and cerebellum.
What does your brain stem control?
It controls your involuntary muscle movements {such as heartbeat and breathing}.
What are the names of the 3 sections of the brain stem?
Pons, Midbrain and Medulla oblongata
What is the spinal cord made of? What does it do?
The spinal cord is made of nerves and cells that carry messages from your brain to the rest of your body .
What is the difference between CNS and PNS?
The central nervous system. is your brain and spinal cord, the main control center. The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body.
What does the cerebellum do?
Controls balance and helps other muscles work together {coordination}
Describe the brain and what it does?
The brain is a complex organ that controls thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger and every process that regulates our body. It is the control center of your body
What are neurons?
Special cells that form nerves along which messages can be sent from the brain to the body and back
