Our gives a sense of collective pain and shared suffering. Brains ache is a metaphor used to show trauma from was and mental exhuastion. Violent imagery. Weather is a weapon.

Mad has connotations of mental or insane , adding a sense of chaos or unease. Auditory imagery helps the reader to feel the atmosphere and shows how sensetive the soldiers are.
“The poignant misery of dawn begins to grow.”
Dawn is meant to be a new fresh beginning, yet it is not here just more pain showing a cyclical structure of endless suffering.
