Describe the route of the MMA:

A

The middle meningeal artery branches off the maxillary artery in the pterygopalatine fossa, travels through the foramen spinosum and then along the MMA groove of the temporal bone before going past the pterion

NB gives rise to and supplies all the meninges

What is the danger space?

A

The danger space is the fascia space of the prevertebral layer as it extends from the base of the head to the mediastinum.

It is not the retropharyngeal sapce

A

An area of the face where laceration could result in infection travelling to the cavernous sinus through the facial vein which connects to the superior opthalmic vein and then into the cavernous sinus.

A

Deep part of sub-mandibular gland. NOT SUBLINGUAL

  • > Hypoglossal
  • > Lingual nerve (around sub-mandibular duct) + Chorda tympani
