How do cervical glands aid sperm entry into the cervical canal?
Cervical glands secrete mucus that blocks sperm entry, except during mid-cycle;
Estrogen and progesterone are responsible for this.
What are the risk factors of cervical cancer?
Frequent cervical inflammation, STIs and HPV
Myometrium
Layer of the uterine wall;
Contracts rhythmically during childbirth
Endometrium
Mucosal lining of the uterine wall;
Fertilized egg burrows into endometrium and resides there
Two sublayers of the endometrium:
Stratum functionalis (functional layer) Stratum basalis (basal layer)
Stratum functionalis (functional layer)
Sheds during menstruation
Stratum basalis (basal layer)
Forms new stratum functionalis after menstruation
