Q

Conclusion

A

Quality of life improves as you move from south to north in Reigate. For example, environmental quality and socio-economic characteristics improve. There is some evidence to support that quality of life also gets better with height, demonstrated by the higher price of properties which are located at the top of a hill where the area is more desirable e.g. High Trees Road.

Q

Evaluation

A
  • Methods support conclusions to some extent. By splitting Reigate into zones provided good spatial coverage. 10 streets were sampled which meant a good representation of the area which was achieved
  • Problems with data collection methods: subjective nature of carrying out an EQS - views vary - could under/over score an area’s environmental quality
  • EQS only graded environmental factors and their qualities from -2 to +2 - relatively small scale - hard to differentiate good and bad quality (enlarge this scale)
  • Certain streets not represented in the data collected, therefore not true representation necessarily of urban zoning (enlarge no. of streets investigated)
  • to improve, results could be supported from further data from the Census and Index of Multiple deprivation to provide a greater insight into socio-economic characteristics
