Components of management
There are three components of management: inputs, throughputs and outputs
Inputs
Inputs include anything brought into the management system. Inputs are made up of demands and resources
Demands
Needs-basic requirements for survival e.g. water
Wants-specific thing someone desires but doesn’t need e.g. holidays
Goals-something you work on to achieve
Resources
Time-Individuals need time in order to carry out tasks
Human skills-Things a person can offer e.g. budgeting skills
Material-money and equipment
Throughputs
Involve the process of planning, organising and implementing
Planning
Identify the goal-what’s going to be achieved
Identify available resources-money and time
Making a plan
Designing a plan
Organising
Appoint appropriate individuals to tasks
Allocate available resources
Implementing
Put plan into action
Outputs
Outputs are the end results of inputs and throughputs
Goals-Have they been reached
Needs and wants-have they been met
Resources-have they been used effectivley
Family
The family is a group of people related to each other by blood, marriage or adoption
Nuclear families
Nuclear families consists of parents are their children
Characteristics
-Nuclear families are small in size the average is 1.4
-Nuclear families are mobile due to the small size of people so they can easily move from place to place
-Nuclear families are often dual-income families
Kinship
A blood relationship that exists between family members
Norms
The normal patterns of behaviour that individuals are expected to follow within society e.g. saying please and thank you
Values
The attitudes and beliefs held by a society regarding what is right and wrong these are reinforced by the law
Socialisation
The process whereby an individual learns appropriate norms, values and social skills in order to behave in a manner acceptable in society
Role
The expected pattern of behaviour of an induvial according to their status in society e.g. a judge has to be fair in court
Socio-economic grouping
The classification of indivduals based on their economic and socail postion in relation to others based on income, education and occupation. In ireland these groups are usually classified as lower, middle and higher class
Social mobility
The movement of individuals between socio-economic grouping e.g. from middle class to higher class this may occur due to educational progression
Social change
Changes that take place in society due to major developments e.g. changes in technology such as social media
