Fatigue Flashcards
(8 cards)
fatigue?
gradual and multifactorial process.
fuel depletion
depletion of the body’s energy fuels which allows ATP resynthesis to occur
central fatigue?
occurs when muscular function is decreased due to CNS.
peripheral fatigue?
at the muscles, when muscle function is disrupted.
Factors that affect the rate of fatigue?
- type of activity
- intensity
- fitness levels
factors contributing to fatigue?
thermoregulation
fuel depletion
by products
Anaerobic system likely cause of fatigue
lactic acid - impaired muscle contraction force, impaired velocity force
accumulation of H+ ions - makes muscles more acidic,
Aerobic system likely causes of fatigue
fuel depletion - moving from glyocgen to fats, meaning you will hit the wall for energy supply
thermoregulation - evaporation sweat produced trying to cool the body results in reduced muscle strength and endurance, convention, radiation
neuromuscular factors - decreased CNS firing, weaker signals to working muscles reducing intensity and slow down work rate, loss of electrolytes, DOMS
