Uterus

A

Bicornate (two-horned) or V-shaped structure. Ova are directly released into the uterus (no fallopian tubes). This long, two-part uterine structure allows for the gestation of 8-12 fetuses.

Ovaries

A

Where production of ova (egg cells) takes place, via meiosis.

Found at the cranial ends of each horn of the uterus. Release ova directly into uterus.

Vagina

A

During birth, fetuses are delivered through the vagina, or birth canal.

Leads from the uterus to the outside environment.

The orifice of the vagina will be seen on the outside of the rat, cranial to the anus.
