fetal circ and doppler Flashcards
(14 cards)
Umbilical Artery (UA) Doppler
Spectral waveform affected by were sample is taken (higher at fetal or placenta end?)
fetal end
Umbilical Artery (UA) Doppler
Where will changes to doppler be affected first
Changes will be seen at fetal end first.
Umbilical Artery (UA) Doppler
Normal impedance of flow should be high/low resistance.
low resistance
Low/high resistance seen in first trimester.
high resistance
Umbilical artery impedance indices will decrease/increase when there is a decrease in placental perfusion.
increase
normal Umbilical Artery waveform has a _____________ appearance
saw tooth
Additional Doppler Assessment Needed If UA Doppler Is Abnormal
Fetal Middle Cerebral Artery
Ductus Venosus
Umbilical Vein
Uterine Artery
MCA in normal situation has a low-resistance or high-resistance, (minimal fetal diastolic antegrade flow).
high resistance
During pathologic states, MCA will become more low-resistance or high-resistance, following fetal head sparing theory.
Severe cerebral edema can cause high-resistance waveform, resulting in poor prognosis.
low resistance
what kind of waveform does Ductus Venosus (DV) have
triphasic
what kind of waveform is umbilical vein
monophasic
what does pulsatile in umbilical vein in first trimester mean,
chromosomal abnormality may be suspected
Adverse outcome associated with:
Umbilical artery- S/D ratio > 3.0 after 30 wks, (check for decreased, absent, or reversed end-diastolic flow)
Uterine artery- PI > 1.5 with detection of an early notch
Ductus venosus- increased RI; absent or reversed flow during atrial contraction
Middle cerebral artery- decreased PI (brain sparing effect)
