Nitroglycerin

A

Vasodilator, Angina, HTN, heart failure

AVOID touching the medication will cause headache

Start with as small of a dose as possible, remove NTG (paste or transdermal patch) 8-10 hours daily usually at night

Teaching: Stable angina: Take one prior to activity known to cause pain; Angina symptoms: If ANY pain persists after one dose call 911 immediately, may take 2 more doses for a total of 3 doses 5 minutes apart if directed

Atorvastatin

A

Lipid lowering agent

DECREASES LDL; INCREASES HDL

Adverse effects: myopathy, hepatoxicity

Drug-food: Grapefruit

Assess: Monitor creatinine levels, renal function (myopathy), LFTs at 12 weeks then q6 months (hepatotoxicity), report muscle weakness or tenderness
