Summary of Main Points:
Connection to the Audience:
Attention Getter –
Main goal is to thank the presenter
- name specifically
-actual person or a fictional one
Specific Purpose Statement –
ample information to ensure that everyone knows what you are up to
ex: “I am honored to receive the ________ award . . . . . “
Central Idea –
a preview of the three reasons that you were selected for the award
(you CAN combine this with the Specific Purpose Statement)
First Part of the Body-
humble acknowledgement of at least TWO reasons that you were chosen for the award.
First reason for receiving the award-
– Identify a reason and give specific examples.
-use examples that SHOW the audience how you are the reason.(discussing obstacles, thoughts about the specific examples, etc.)
-first reason be the LEAST IMPORTANT reason that you were chosen.
Second reason for receiving the award–
- Identify a second reason and give specific examples.
- Let this reason that you were chosen be a little MORE IMPORTANT than the first reason.
Second Part of the Body-
brief discussion of thoughts and feelings about receiving the award.
Thought #1 –
Don’t be brief here! provide good follow-up examples to support this point.
Thought #2 –
Again, don’t be brief! Expand your thoughts!
Conclusion-
-Give the brake light
-Thank the presenter by name for giving you this award
-thank the audience for coming to this function.
-Don’t forget to restate your main points (in a humble way, of course!)
Audience Connection-
-discuss the implications of this award for the audience and society, in general,
-provide the actual acceptance of the award.
(encourage the audience to do something in particular so that they, too, can strive for this award in the future)
