piggy Flashcards

Attention Getter
Next time you tell yourself you’ll do something when pigs fly, think twice…
Hello, my name is Dianna Moore. I am a student at Gulf Shores High School and Coastal Alabama.
Purpose
Today, I’m going to tell you a little about myself, and I thought the best way to do that was with the help of an old friend. Piggy is my childhood stuffed animal.
Central Idea (Preview of Main Points)
We have a lot in common, and I believe he represents my dedication, optimistic outlook on life and will to do the impossible.
Main Point 1
First, I value loyalty and dedication in my life.
Support for Point 1
This year, I was named captain of the volleyball team, and it did not come easily to me. I moved to Gulf Shores High School last year and had to fight to make a name for myself in the volleyball program. I earned the respect of my teammates and coaches and was dedicated to showing them who I was as a player and a person. Without my dedication to proving myself, I would have never gotten the opportunity to be a team captain. I also am dedicated to making my school a better place. I serve as Class Secretary, treasurer, and as a School Ambassador. I would have never gotten these roles if I hadn’t dedicated myself to pushing for change on behalf of my classmates. As you can tell by his well-loved appearance, I’ve been loyal to Piggy since day one, and he’s been dedicated to helping me get through the challenges of growing up.
Transition
However, this loyalty is not all me and Piggy have in common.
Main Point 2
Second, I have an optimistic outlook on life.
Support for Point 2
When I was asked by my babysitter what stuffed animal I wanted, I said a pig; as a joke. When she returned to my house with a disproportioned, cross-eyed, stuffed pig, I was thrilled. I looked at him optimistically, and he quickly became my best friend. I choose to always look for the silver lining. When I moved schools junior year, I took on that challenge with excitement. I thought of it as an opportunity to make new friends, reinvent myself, and become closer to my family. Because I stepped into this challenge with an optimistic mindset, I achieved all those goals and am very happy where I’m at.
Transition
But the thing me and Piggy have most in common is our will to do the impossible.
Main Point 3
Lastly, I believe in pushing myself out of my comfort zone to learn something new.
Support for Point 3
When I was 6, I held onto Piggy’s arm and stuck him out of the car window on the interstate. To my surprise, he flew onto the median. Piggy conquered the popular idiom of defying the impossible. I try to push myself out of my comfort zone every day by taking on unique tasks like learning how to scuba dive and trying unusual workout classes. Whether it’s through my schoolwork or in my social life, I am always striving to go above and beyond. Piggy flew, and I push myself every day so that I can fly too.
conclusion
In conclusion.
Re-Inforce Central Idea (Restate Main Points)
I have told you that I am optimistic, loyal, and have a strong will to do the impossible.
Connect to Intro
Piggy is more than an old friend; he represents who I am and who I strive to be. In a world full of teddy bears, I am proud to be a pig.
