Impressment- the act of forcing Americans to serve in the British army.

The U.S. Ship Chesapeake was intercepted by British vessel demanding to search for dissenters. The captain refused and turn the British commander attacked. Americans tries to cut of trade with Great Britain with embargo act that cut off trade with the world, but it just hurt their own economy

British marched into Washington D.C. and began to and burned the capitol and the president’s mansion. The liberty of congress was also destroyed

British opened fire with cannon balls on fort mcHenry, the fort entrance to Baltimore harbor.

The battle of New Orleans took place after the peace treaty was signed. Andrew Johnson led the patriots.

Spoils system- the practice of replacing government employees with the winning candidate’s supporters.

Jackson tried to kill the bank by withdrawing all federal funds from the national bank and placing them into smaller state banks. Due to the federal bank being “ killed “ by Jackson, the nation enters a depression.

Trail of Tears

A

Relocation and movement of the Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma. General Winfield Scott and an army of 7,000 federal troops came to remove the Cherokee from their homes. The Seminole people were the only Native Americans group to successfully resist removal.

The Alamo – battle significance
The defender of the Alamo brought Texans so much needed time. Sam Houston becomes the commander in chief of the Texas forces. Battalion of San Jacinto- surprise attack that killed over 600 Mexicans soldiers and captured 700 more- including Santa Anna. Troops shouted " Remember the Alamo! ". Lone star republic is formed after Santa Anna surrenders at San Jacinto.

US believes the border is the Rio Grande River, and Mexico believes the border is the Nueces River. One April 24, 1846, Mexican troops attacked Zachary Taylor and his troops in the disputed border area, which was the cause of the Mexican war. Mexico lost half of its territory by losing the war. Died Scott was a slave but his owner moved him to a free state so he was free then but he went back to slavery.
