Finals 3 Flashcards
(61 cards)
A nursing scientific process that validates and refines existing knowledge and generates new knowledge that directly and indirectly influences the delivery of evidence based nursing.
Nursing research
The person conducting the research
Research, investigator, scientist
When a researcher possess a problem or answer a question.
Study, investigation, research project
People who are being studied
Subjects, study participants
Vehicles of thoughts
Concepts
The process of developing and refining concepts
Conceptualization
An abstraction or mental representation inferred from situation, events, our behaviors. Deliberately invented by researcher for a specific purpose.
Construct
A set of defined concepts and relational statements that provide a structured way to think about a phenomenon.
Theory
Develop to describe, explain or predict a phenomenon or outcome
Theory
A creative and rigorous tracting of ideas that includes integrated concept existence statements and relational statements that present a systematic view of phenomenon
Theory
A logical process where you start with a general idea or theory and move towards a specific conclusion
Deductive reasoning
A logical process where you move from specific observation to general conclusions or theories
Inductive reasoning
A statement of an asserted relationship between two or more variables
Hypothesis
Any characteristic, trait or condition that can change or be measured.
Variables
What are the two types of variables
Dependent and independent variables
The variable that is believed to cause or influence the dependent variable. It is change or controlled by the researcher. They cause in a cause and effect relationship
Independent variable
The variables that is measured in the study. The effect or outcome variable of interest. The variable that is hypothesized to depend on or be caused by or predicted by the independent variable.
Dependent variable
The variation of the variable. The specific measurement or category assigned to a variable
Value
It refers to the structure or systems of concepts, theories and assumptions that guide the study
Framework
It helps organize ideas, define relationship between variables, and provide a clear focus for the research
Framework
What are two main types of framework
Theoretical framework
Conceptual framework
It is a framework that is based on established theories from previous research that explains why a phenomenon exist and predicts relationship between variables.
Theoretical framework
A framework where a researchers own construction based on personal understanding, literature and observation. Useful when no existing theory fully explains the topic and shows how the researcher views the problem and organize the study.
Conceptual framework
The overall strategy or plan for conducting a study that includes the specific methods, procedures and tools the researcher uses to collect and analyze data. In simpler term it’s “how the research is done”
Methodology
