Dual channel
How does the engine fire/overheat detection work?
Dual loops
Both must detect unless one is inoperative
What indications would be seen in the event of an engine fire?
Master Warning switch illuminates
Aural warning
FIRE displays above N1
EICAS message
FIRE displays on ENGINE panel
What happens when the associated ENG FIRE switch is pressed?
FADEC commands a shutdown by accomplishing the following:
BFGFHF
Bleed Air shuts off
Fan Air valve closes
Generator deactivates
Fuel cuts off
Hydraulic shuts off
Fire bottles arm
How many bottles are available for fighting engine fire?
2 bottles (BTL1 & BTL2)
What happens when you press the BTL discharge button?
Discharges halon into the engine
After bottle discharges, amber bar illuminates on the button
EICAS message: ENG 1(2) LO
What are the indications that an APU fire has been detected?
MASTER WARNING
APU FIRE aural
EICAS message
APU fire switch illuminates
What happens when you press the APU fire switch?
BFGF
Bleed air shuts off
Fuel shuts off
Generator disconnects
Fire bottle arms
If an APU fire is detected on the ground, what happens automatically?
APU shuts down
External APU horn sounds
Fire bottles discharges 10 seconds later
Will the APU automatically shut down in the air for a fire?
No
How many smoke detectors are there in each cargo compartment?
4 in each cargo compartment. Class C
How many smoke detectors must detect smoke before a CARGO FIRE warning is issued?

What are the indications for a cargo smoke?
Master Warning
“Cargo Fire” aural warning
FWD or AFT CARGO fire warning message
Buttons illuminate
What happens when the FWD or AFT cargo fire button is pressed?
Arms fire extinguisher
Recirculation fans shut off
Ventilation shuts off
BTL becomes available
What are the two types of bottles available to fight the fire in the cargo compartments?
High discharge (HRD)
Low discharge (LRD)
When smoke is detected in the equipment bay what components shut down?
Recirculation fan
Cargo bay ventilation valves
What is the LAV extinguisher nozzle temperature for discharge?
76.5*C
How long will the LRD bottle discharges for?
Minimum of 180 minutes +15 minutes hold
How can you override the automatic bottle discharge and silence the horn for the APU?
By pressing the APU FIRE guarded switch
