Q

How do you extinguish a class charlie fire?

A

Energized: CO2, Halon, PKP and H2O in fog patterns with a minimum distance or 4 feet
De-energized: Treat as a Class Alpha, Bravo or Delta fire

13
Q

How do you extinguish a class charlie fire?

A

Effective extinguishing agents are H2O in large quantities in high velocity fog, apply water from a safe distance or from behind shelter as small explosions can occur.

Q

Describe (AFFF)?

A

Consists primarily of synthetic flourocarbon sufactant materials that are noncorrosive and have an unlimited shelf life when stored in a protected area.

16
Q

What percentages of (AFFF) are approved for naval use?

A

3% & 6% concentrate is approved for naval use. Shipboard equipment requires a 6% concentrate

17
Q

What is Halon 1211?

A

Bromochloroifluoromethane

18
Q

Describe Halon 1211?

A

Is intended for class B & C fires; however it is effective against class A fires as well. Halon 1211 is a colorless, faintly sweet smelling, electrically nonconductive gas that no residue to clean up. Halon 1211 extinguishes fires by inhibiting the chemical chain reaction of the combustion process.

19
Q

Describe how CO2 works?

A

Intended primarily for use on class B & C fires. Works by removing oxygen from the chemical chain reaction.

20
Q

Describe how PKP works?

A

PKP is intended primarily use on class B fires. The principle chemical is potassium bicarbonate and the dry chemical extinguishes the fire by braking the chemical chain reaction.
