What should be included in personal cleanliness?
- Using wet wipes regularly
- Regular hand washing
- Clean face, armpits, feet, waist and groin on a daily basis
- Socks and underwear changed everyday
Should socks be worn at night? Why or why not?
Socks should not be worn at night as it gives the feet an opportunity to air out.

Weight should be even distributed across the hips
How to pack a pack?
- Put the heavier stuff close to your back
- Waterproof your entire bag
- Put necessities in areas that are easily accessible
What is first aid?
It is the initial actions taken in a medical situation before trained professionals or paramedics arrive
What are the 4 main purposes of first aid?
- To preserve life
- Protect casualty
- Provide pain relief
- Prevent injury from becoming worse
What does DRSABCD stand for?
Danger - to you, other and casualty
Response - Conscious or unconscious use COWS
Send for help - Tell DS and rank, notify medic, call 000
Airways - Use pistol grip, place in recovery position and remove blockage with casualties hand
Breathing - look, listen and feel
CPR - 30 chest compression (one third of chest depth) 2 rescue breaths
Defibrillator - Staff should take over

What do you do when bitten by spider?
- Crepe bandage over bite
- Firmly apply pressure bandage starting at the bottom of the limb and working your way to the top
- Immobilise bandaged limb using splints
What are the symptoms of anaphylaxis?
- Swelling of mouth, face and tongue
- Difficulty breathing
What id the treatment of anaphylaxis?
- Notify DS, Rank and medic
- Locate epipen and follow instructions
- If no improvements after 5 minutes further adrenaline can be administered
What is hypothermia?
Having a dangerously low body temperature
What is the treatment of hypothermia?
Try to increase core temperature through the use of other humans as well as safety blankets
What is hyperthermia?
Having dangerously high body temperatures?
What is the treatment of hyperthermia?
- Cool the neck and armpits
- Have small sips of water
- Remove from direct sunlisht
What is arterial bleeding and what does it look like?
- The most dangerous form of bleeding
- Bleeding of an artery
- Blood bright red and spurts out rhythmically with heartbeat
What is venous bleeding and what does it look like?
- Mild danger
- Bleeding from vein
- Blood dark red and flows steadily
What is capillary bleeding and what does it look like?
- Low danger
- Bleeding from capillary
- Small amount of blood oozes
What is internal bleeding?
Concealed blood loss into cavity
