Q

Why is the town of Cockermouth at risk of flooding? (2 reasons)

A

1) It sits at the confluence between the river Cocker and the river Derwent, so river discharge suddenly increases there.

2) It sits at a low elevation (bottom of a hill) which means rate of surface runoff is high and lag time is short between rainfall and river discharge.
